A Bismarck&Co Story with Stéphanie & Kooper from @kooper.the.toller

Tell us a little about your best friends name, how you picked it and what is means.

We saw a video on Instagram of a golden retriever playing in a ball pit for his birthday. It made us laugh, and we loved it when his owners shouted “Happy Birthday, Kooper!” From that moment on, we knew our dog would be called Kooper.

How did you come to meet your best friend?

The first time we met him was at the breeder’s. We hadn’t yet decided which of the three puppies to choose, but from the start, we somehow knew he would be our Kooper. And we were right. It was a feeling deep inside us – there’s no such thing as coincidence, only meaningful encounters.

Is Kooper a specific breed? Can you tell us anything you have learnt about what makes this breed so special?

Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. We didn’t know the breed at first. My partner wanted a Golden, and I liked Australian Shepherds. Then we discovered Tollers — the perfect mix of both. We did a lot of research before adopting him, and the breed turned out to be a perfect fit for us (and us for him). We have never regretted our choice. He's intelligent, sensitive, and wonderfully funny.

Tell what you love most about Kooper.

His kindness, sensitivity, and his love for sleeping – very often.

Is there something funny or quirky he does that makes you smile?

When he lets out a loud fart, he gets scared and runs away.

What can you tell someone who is thinking about finding or adopting a best friend?

Learn everything you can about the breed. It has to suit you, but you also have to suit the breed. Adoption is for life, and it’s important to be well-prepared. Some days will be harder than others, but they are truly our best friends. You grow together, and their unconditional love is the greatest gift of all..

What is one tip you would give someone who has just adopted a best four-legged friend?

Be patient and loving. Have compassion – for your dog and for yourselves. No one is perfect; we learn every day. The best is yet to come. What matters most is doing your best while respecting each other.

Is you had to pick one word to describe your best friend what would it be?

Lazy.

What have you learnt most from Kooper?

Patience, resilience, compassion, forgiveness, learning, determination – and true love.

What has having an animal friend in your life taught you?

Our priorities have changed. So has our circle of friends. We’ve grown closer to people who understand our devotion to our dog. Our way of life and travel have changed too. It’s all part of discovering this new and wonderful friendship.

Any last thoughts about your best friend Kooper that you want to share with us?

Kooper has truly changed our lives. He’s there for us in both good and difficult times. Always by our side when we need him. Thanks to him, we’ve met so many great people – and even discovered new brands like Bismarck&Co. We’re grateful for everything he’s brought into our lives.
